How to Create a Budget You Can Stick To

July 07, 2020 in [Finance]

Wealthy people know exactly where all of their money is going and how it is being spent before it does. If they don’t know themselves, they hire someone to know for them. That is how important budgeting is. It has to get done in order to build wealth.

But let’s face it, the idea of budgeting is overwhelming and intimidating. Just the mere mention of the word budget can be a turn off. If you have gotten past the fear of budgeting and attempted it for yourself but found that it wasn’t for you, I want you to know there is a reason for that!

There is no one best way to budget. Like any successful endeavor, the process is going to be different for everyone and tailored to each individual’s circumstances and goals. The steps, however, will be the same.

So, is there a secret to creating a successful budget plan? Yes. Hint: It's all in the details (in my best @halfricanbeaute voice). To create an effective and lasting budget plan you need to:

  • Understand your financial goals

  • Keep things that bring you joy

  • Cut out the stuff that don't

  • Track your expenses

  • Analyze every expense

  • Track your progress

A budget can be created for any financial goal. I am currently on a debt-free journey. I created a budget that would help me be debt-free faster. Here is a visual on what that looks like step-by-step when applying a budget (keeping the aforementioned steps in mind) to paying off debt quickly and effectively.

Use a budget tool to help set a debt free deadline date, organize your finances and map out where every single one of your dollars will be going every month or if you are as detailed as me, with every paycheck!

The more detailed you can get with your plan, the better. It might sound a little overwhelming but with the right budget tool it doesn't have to be at all.
